Pranjal's Paper Recycling Project
Dedicated for the better environment

It is said “If there is a paradise on earth, it begins from north to Pokhara.” Obviously, on the lap of Annapurna Himalayan Range, Pokhara is blanketed with emerald blue lakes, green forests, deep gorges and underground waterfalls, caves, hills and rills. If Kathmandu is the cultural hub- Pokhara, a place of exhilarating beauty is to refresh and relax and to discover the mysterious creation of nature. Thousand of people from different part of the world come here just to awake the sleeping beauty. In 1899 Ekai Kawaguchi, the Japanese Buddhist scholar who was the first foreigner to visit Pokhara said, “…In all my travels in the Himalayas I saw no scenery so enchanting as that which enraptured me at in Pokhara.

But, despite of being a beautiful valley, this place is being uglier day by day due to the lack of civic consciousness and the government's irresponsibility. Tones of paper are thrown in the river and just burn. Therefore, with taking much care of environment, we have planned for this recycling project. Its basic concept is simple but valuable:

  • Reuse of wastage paper
  • Save the environment
  • Encouraging the women & street children
  • Recycled paper products to the helpless school children
  • Promotion of education and social activities

Project Regulation

  • An association with 7 members shall be formed.
  • Technology / Paper recycling plant shall be asked help from supporters.
  • A small house, with open place nearby, shall be hired.
  • Four staffs shall be kept in the project in the beginning
  • Empty bottle & useless tin collectors shall be encouraged to collect the useless papers too. As A result, the necessity of many staff shall be reduced automatically.
  • The Recycled paper shall be sold in a mobile cart and kept the income in the company fund. However, 20 % of the paper production shall be distributed to the helpless children.

General Facts : By Recycling 1 ton of paper you save:

17 trees , 6953 gallons of water, 463 gallons of oil, 587 pounds of air pollution, 3.06 cubic yards of landfill space , 4077 Kilowatt hours of energy.

In the manufacturing process of Recycled Paper:

  • 74% Less air pollution is generated
  • 35% Less water pollution is generated
  • 58% Less water is required
  • 64% Less energy is required
  • 31 billion gallons of water could be saved every month by installing water efficiency shower heads in our homes.
